The outstanding Viennese choreographer Willi Dorner has agreed to grace both the opening of TRIENNALE LINZ and of Lange Nacht der Bühnen [Long Night of the Theatres] with a performance of his intervention bodies in urban spaces.

In addition to his internationally staged dance performances Dorner is also responsible for events designed to give his audiences the opportunity to gain new experiences, new insights and a more differentiated perception of day-to-day life. His interdisciplinary works always take shape in close collaboration with artists and experts drawn from very different fields. Performers move across the city in a chain of quickly forming individual body sculptures. They occupy niches, pile up in corners, drape themselves across walls or steps. They are followed across Linz by their moving audience, who are experiencing their city from unexpected perspectives. »bodies in urban spaces« is a temporary intervention in different architectual settings. Dorner intends to use it to draw attention to urban functional structures and the reduction they imply for the limits and habits of mobility. The choice of specific locations for the staging of his intervention is expected to bring about a process of reflection and to raise questions regarding the audience’s urban ambience and their own daily use of it. These questions and the memories of the intervention in the minds of those who have witnessed it are the only traces it will leave behind.
